Chair of Sustainability [email protected] Kate is a junior majoring in English and Environmental Science and Policy. She is especially interested in climate change, energy, water rights, and environmental justice issues. Outside of SSC, she reads a lot of books, swims, plays piano, and does a little tech/theater. |
Mikhail Slutskiy Webmaster [email protected] Mikhail is a freshman studying civil and environmental engineering. His passion for waste water treatment has earned him the 2009 and 2010 Maryland Stockholm Junior Water Prize for excellence in water related research. He continues this passion onto all environmental issues and wants to make as much of an impact as possible. Apart from SSC, he is part of the UMD Concrete Canoe and Club Rugby. Enjoys working with computers, reading, working out, and being a hockey fan. |

Liz Antman

Liz Antman, a freshman Biology major, is motivated to use science to develop green technologies and renewable energy and is passionate about educating people on the responsible use of our natural resources. Liz is a vegetarian, animal lover who enjoys hiking, reading, and baking.
Isabel Enerson

Isabel is a freshman Environmental Science and Technology major. She is totally enthused about the environment... and thinks you should be too! Her interests lie in creating sustainable communities through the integration of solutions and ecological awareness into common cultural contexts. In her spare time, Isabel enjoys macrophotography, tea, reusable bags, friendly debates, and exploring the natural world.
Karina French

Karina French is a junior studying English and Geography, with a concentration in sustainability. She is most passionate about sustainable and just food, and is an organizer for the Real Food UMD campaign this year. She hopes to work on issues of environmental justice after graduation. Besides SSC, Karina loves strong coffee, good cheese, mountains, reading, and swimming in rivers.
Sarah Gibbons

Sarah Gibbons is a freshman Biochemistry major with a concentration in Pharmacy. She loves nature and is often hiking, camping, horseback riding, or running just to be outside. To Sarah, sustainability is an extremely important issue that the majority of the general public is not well enough educated on and hopes to promote this kind of education as well as develop new projects to increase the sustainability of campus. In her free time, Sarah can be found doing yoga, cheering on the Terps, acting, or singing
Eric Kazyak

Eric is a freshman studying Mechanical Engineering. He spends much of
his time taking care of a Saltwater reef aquarium. He has been
fortunate enough to backpack in England, Ireland, Alaska, New Mexico,
British Columbia, Maine, New York, plus all of the "local" states. He
loves snorkeling, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, hiking, cooking,
building things, and more. He is particularly interested in outreach
and education on environmental issues. He is a wealth of (useless)
knowledge on lighting technology, saltwater organisms, soils,
groundwater....
Alex Krefetz

Alex Krefetz is a Sophomore studying Environmental Science and Political Policy. While he is interested in a wide variety of sustainability-related efforts such as atmospheric science and alternative energy, he's currently working with the Real Food Challenge as an organizer and studying food systems. Aside from SSC, he enjoys reading, playing soccer, and watching Sponge Bob.
Jeremy Krones

Jeremy is a
sophomore studying environmental science & policy and socio-cultural
anthropology. He is involved with
many environmental community service-learning initiatives around campus. Jeremy has worked and volunteered on
many farms and cooperatives around Europe, Israel, and the USA over the past
five years, and enjoys exploring fruitful world of Appalachia and the
Adirondacks. Folklore, music,
dancing, hiking, farming, and being with nice people makes his world go ‘round,
and in turn he tries his best to make your’s go just as sweetly.
Kriti Paul-Gera

Kriti Paul-Gera is a freshman Undecided major. She is extremely passionate about the environment, and also loves philosophy and spirituality studies. Her favorite hobby is cooking and eating good, sustainable food. Kriti's family did not own a car when they lived in Switzerland and California (she biked a lot!) and Kriti would love to be able to not own a car when she grows up (which means either the US needs to improve their public transportation or she's living in a small town where everything can be reached by bike).
Matthew Popkin

Matthew Popkin is a junior studying Government and Politics and Public Policy. For two years, he has been involved with the SSC and the SGA and is eager to focus on issues so pervasive and critical to our future. Matthew has traveled to multiple national parks, where he enjoys hiking and rafting, and enjoys playing soccer and tennis. When spotted indoors, he is often playing the piano, board games, or watching "The Daily Show" and "Modern Family".

Sheenali Naik

Sheenali is a sophomore Environmental and Science major with a concentration in Biodiversity and Conservation. She loves doing anything that gets her outside, including canoeing, kayaking, rock climbing, hiking snorkeling, and running! She has traveled all over the world include 8 countries in Europe, Russia, India, the Bahamas and all across the continental U.S., however her favorite place will always be the islands in Chesapeake Bay. She is also on the Indian Students Association and loves being active on campus getting to know everyone and teaching and learning from them on how to be more sustainable.
Eashan Samak

Eashan Samak is a freshman bioengineering major in the Integrated Life Sciences program in the Honors College. He has always had an interest in conservation and sustainability and is looking forward to doing his bit to help the University of Maryland become an even more environmentally-friendly school. In addition to SSC, he is involved in Engineers Without Borders and the Society of Bioengineering. He enjoys working out at the ERC, eating delicious food, tweaking his computer, and socializing with his friends.
Stephen Tursi

Stephen is a freshen student and is excited to become part of such a powerful
and passionate group on campus. He is currently enrolled in the A. James Clark School of
Engineering, but may peruse other fields of interest when deciding his final career. He loves
being involved in his community, meeting interesting people, and getting others to care
about the environment. Starting off his freshman year, Stephen is excited to see how SSC
and the rest of the University will impact his life and the world around him.
