Student Sustainability Accomplishments
2010 - 2011 Year
- Formation and implementation of a new Sustainability Minor
- Princeton Review listed Maryland amongst 18 institutions in the Green College Honor Roll
- Grand Champions for Recyclemania
- UMD received an A- on the College Sustainability Report Card
- Conducted the Tap That event in STAMP, educating and surveying students on the importance of eliminating bottled water
- Hosted another successful Green Groups Mixer to mingle and talk with other green groups on campus
2009 - 2010 Year
- Organized Campus Drive forum to challenge shutting down of Campus Drive due possible transportation and sustainability consequences
- Successfully sponsored Earth Day 2010 on McKeldin Mall attended by over 500 people
- Rallied in front of Administration Building to take more steps in becoming a sustainable and environmentally responsible university
- Hosted 2 Green Groups Mixers bringing together campus green student groups
- Made SGA CrabFest and SGA Spring BBQ zero waste events
- Campaigned for and succeeded in saving The Wooded Hillock
- Promoted Recyclemania 2010 competition
- Sponsored a Composting Pilot program during Late Night Dining to introduce the idea of compost, recycle, and waste bins in dining halls
- Rallied students to help win the title of America's Greenest Campus
