Mission Statement
As the environmental and sustainability branch of the Student Government Association, the Student Sustainability Committee advocates for sustainability, preservation, and conservation on behalf of the undergraduate student body.
The committee strives to create, enhance, and encourage, and promote sustainability efforts on campus. We are involved with campaigns, forums, legislation, events, protests, and many other interactive efforts on campus! |
History
SSC was born in the fall semester of 2008 when a group of students committed to making the University a better place decided to form a council to turn ideas into action. In 2008-2009, we solicited environmental sustainability project ideas from students and advised and assisted them in their project implementation. Projects we worked on included the campaign to Save The Wooded Hillock, a successful campaign to make the University of Maryland America's Greenest Campus, Recyclemania 2009-2010, and the restoration of campus creek.
